博物館創立100周年を記念したアルバム。ブルガリア国立科学アカデミー美術研究所刊行。博物館所蔵の13世紀末-20世紀末のイコン・コレクション(約600点)を収録。 This luxurious album presents the collection of icons of the National Church History and Archeology Museum under the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. It is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the museum. The National Church History and Archeology Museum owns the largest collection of works of Christian art in Bulgaria. Among them are the icons from the Iconographic Department of the museum. It is a significant fund in its scale and diversity, with chronological boundaries from the end of the 13th to the end of the 20th century. A large part of this collection is made up of iconographic works that have not been exhibited, studied and published. The collection also includes some of the most significant examples of our medieval and Renaissance art.
The publication includes 600 iconographic works, which make up almost the entire collection of the museum, with the majority of them being published for the first time. They are divided into three large sections, including icons from the end of the 13th to the end of the 17th century, those from the 18th century and icons from the end of the 18th to the end of the 19th century. Additional thematic groups have also been formed, presenting double-sided icons, Russian icons and triptychs. The structure of the publication is fully consistent with the nature of the collection and individual works, while at the same time meeting modern scientific requirements for the analysis and publication of icons. The prepared articles and annotations contain not only information related to the specifics of each object, but also data on its origin, its entry into the museum, additional information on previous restoration interventions, participation in exhibitions, bibliography, etc.
In this edition, an additional grouping of icons by origin and authorship of the icon painters has been introduced. This method has been applied to the entire edition, with a large part of the works being presented in groups in the form of general articles, in which the icons of a given master are considered in the context of his work and in relation to their common origin from a certain settlement and church. This allows the works to be presented in their full scientific problematic, overcoming the usual limitations offered by traditional catalogs dedicated to museum collections. In places, external parallels have also been given for some icons, which has further enriched the scientific presentation of the entire collection. In this way, the origin of many icons, which was lost or mistaken in the museum's inventory books, has been restored. New icon painters, previously unknown to science, have been identified, and a number of inaccuracies related to the work of some popular masters have been corrected. In addition, an epigraphic analysis of the preserved inscriptions from all icons has been added, which allowed the restoration of important information related to their dating, origin and donors, and led to corrections of the information known from previous publications.
In the parts presenting the icons from the end of the 13th to the 17th centuries and those from the 18th century, a series of new attributions have been made, linking icons that have so far been published as independent works, considered to be the work of different icon painters or studios and known in science with inaccurate dating. The icons from the Renaissance section are presented not only in chronological order, but are arranged according to the generations of icon painters and their family ties. This innovative approach is related to the specificity of the museum collection, which contains icons from all over the country and beyond, and in practice is a representative sample of the iconographic production in the Bulgarian lands under Ottoman rule from the late 18th and 19th centuries.価格(税込み) \72,930
